Rich History of Rolex Watches

Rolex is a Swiss maker of customarily mechanical timepieces prominent for their reliability, status, and price.
In 1905, the German Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law Alfred Davis created the Rolex SA. Contrary to common belief, Hans Wilsdorf was neither Swiss, nor a maker of a watch. Wilsdorf & Davis was the original label this timepiece and became the Rolex Watch Company afterwards.
They originally introduced the Swiss movements of Hermann Aegler to England and placed them in eminence cases made by Dennison and the others. These first timepieces were then sold to jewelers, who then put their own names on the watch’s dial. The original wristwatches from the company of Davis and Wilsdorf are typically labeled with W&D, but only in the inside part of its back case.
Furthermore, in 1908, Wilsdorf registered the brand name Rolex in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The basis of its label is unclear. One story, which was never confirmed by its maker himself, is that the name Rolex came from the French phrase horlogerie exquise, which mean delicate timepiece industry. Another story is that the label was preferred to specify movement when pronounced in English.
In 1912, the Wilsdorf & Davis Company left the United Kingdom. Wilsdorf desired his timepieces to be inexpensive, but export and taxes obligations on the case metal, which is silver and gold, were increasing the price up. From that time up to these days, Rolex has been based in Geneva, Switzerland, although the company has facilities in other cities, such as in Bienne, and continents like Australia, North America, Asia and among others.
On November 15, 1915, the brand Rolex was officially registered and it is believed that this modification was part of a motivation to promote watches, which at that time were still reflected an innovation mainly for women. Personally speaking, Rolex is certainly one of the most popular brands of watches in today’s market, and of course one of the most expensive too. With its quality, it is understandable that even though it costs thousands of dollars, people still preferred this brand among other brands of timepieces nowadays.
